From the Principal:
Queen Elizabeth II
Across this week, we continue to reflect on the sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
With respect to our Queen, we will be flying our flags at half-mast this week and keeping her in our prayers:
Today we come together to pray thanks to almighty God for the life of the Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
We thank God for blessing Her Majesty over her years of service to her country and the Commonwealth.
The Queen not only devoted her duty to the nation, she also showed steadfast love in her faith in Jesus.
Let us pray that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is now received into the merciful presence of God.
May she rest in peace.
Amen.
Athletics
On Friday, the 9th of September, 12 children from St Augustine's represented their school at the Sovereign and Eureka Athletics Day. This was a considerable achievement to get to this level, and all students showed excellent sporting ability. Congratulations to Jack Clohesy, Bing Scopel, Max Clohesy, Maple Budin, Georgie Righetti, Lexie Coyle, Hugh Miller, Isla Keating, Ella Wright, Nick Quirk, Jett Winduss and Jack Howie.
Well done to Hugh Miller, who won his shot put event, and Nick Quirk, who came second in the long jump. Both students will go to the next round in October.

Golf at St. Augustine's
As in previous years, Tony Collier has conducted golfing skills sessions at our school over the past two weeks and has provided opportunities for our senior students to try a new sport and recognise new talents. As a result, twelve students have been chosen to participate in the upcoming Ballarat Golf Tournament. As of today, four have accepted the invitation, more to follow next term.
Swimming Program
As we approach the end of this year's swimming program, it is time to evaluate how well it has catered for the needs of our children:
- The venue and its facilities are first class
- Class sizes are working exceptionally well
- The expertise and attention to detail of the teachers were excellent
- The bus company has done a great job ferrying us to and from the venue
- After attending most of the sessions, it is very pleasing to see the children develop skills and attitudes.
The program has proved to be an excellent way to introduce our younger ones to water awareness and water safety and beginning stroke technique as well as develop the skills and attitude of our more proficient swimmers on their journey to becoming competent and confident swimmers. The program coordinator approached me to say how impressed she was with the attitude, behaviour, and calm approach taken by our students, and this didn't just come from instructors but from all that came in contact with our students.

Father's Day
We trust all our Fathers and Grandfathers and unique stand-in Fathers had a fabulous Father's Day. We want to acknowledge the efforts of Jess Reynolds, who organised the Father's Day presentation. Huge thanks to the many from our school community who took time out to attend our Father's Day celebrations. It was fabulous to witness everyone sharing special family time and enjoying each other's company.

Thanks for a Great Term
This Friday marks the end of another successful term of learning at St Augustine's. It has been such a pleasure to experience the varied learning that has taken place. This learning is not possible without the cooperation of so many people. Thank you to our students who attend class so cheerfully and have such a desire to learn. They truly make working in this school such a privilege. Thank you to all the parents who help the school in so many different ways. Thank you to our hard-working and committed teachers and support staff, who are a privilege to work with and give so much of themselves to make our school a great place of learning. Finally, thanks to Karen for all that you do that keeps the administration side running smoothly.
I wish all a safe and happy break and to end with a poem that comes from each child's heart, saying thank you to all those that matter in their lives, family, friends and, of course, our teaching and support staff.
When You Thought I Wasn't Looking
By: Mary Rita Schilke Korzan
When you thought I wasn't looking,
You displayed my first report,
And I wanted to do another.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
You fed a stray cat,
And I thought it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
You gave me a sticker,
And I knew that little things were special things.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
You put your arm around me,
And I felt loved.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes,
And I learned that sometimes things hurt – but that it's all right to cry.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
You smiled,
And it made me want to look that pretty too.
When you thought I wasn't looking,
You cared,
And I wanted to be everything I could be.
When you thought I wasn't looking –
I looked…and
Wanted to say Thanks for all those things you did when you thought I wasn't looking.
